Copyright Provisions for 'First Name Books' and the 'First Name Books' web-site;

The business and site are based in Australia, the laws that govern these are the Commonwealth Laws relating to Copyright which are:

  • The Copyright Act 1968
  • Copyright Amendment Act 2006

 

Melissa BEE and 'First Name Books' have asserted their rights under the Copyright Act,                           to be identified as: 

  • the creator of this concept
  •  the author of all of the books on names 
  • designer and producers of all book covers
  • publisher of all of the books on names (with the exception of the 250-page Melissa Book)
  • supplier of web-site content 

 

WEB SITE:

The web-site design, programming are Copyright to The Web Showroom, 2009. Web-site design, colour and appearance were completed by The Web Showroom on 'First Name Books' instructions. All content for this site has been supplied by 'First Name Books' The 'First Name Books' Logo is trademarked. Images used on the site were purchased. The artist is Turkish cartoonist, Oguz Aral (1936-2004)

 

CONCEPT:

The concept of a book devoted soley to single first name (given name or Christian name) rather than a group of names; had never been done before. Extensive searches of all types of media concluded that hundreds of books about names and babies names existed, but no single book series on single and unique first names existed. This concept was devised and initiated by Melissa BEE based on an original idea conceived over ten years ago. This concept is protected by both Copyright and by Design Law. The Logo of 'First Name Books' is trademarked. 

 

BOOKS:

No part of any of the published 'First Name Books' may be reprinted or reproduced or stored in an information retrieval system, (other than short extracts for review) without the express permission of 'First Name Books' and Melissa BEE, given in writing. Use of the design, the format of 'First Name Books' or any material from any book without permission will be construed as theft or plagiarism and such action will be taken as appropriate. 

 

The Copyright Amendment Act 2006 allows for "new and innovative exceptions allow for the use of copyright material for socially useful purposes."

The material contained in these books (other than that written by Melissa BEE) was obtained from material previously published, or by correspondence with those who supplied information and permissions. The material is set out in good faith for general guidance and infotainment. 'First Name Books' assumes no responsibility for errors or omissions. No liability can be accepted for any loss or expense incurred as a result of relying on particular circumstances or statements made in these books.

All of the people pictured in the books are of public figures, with the exception of baby, Melissa Grimes (in The Melissa Book). Images used are obtained from freely distributed publicity photographs for the celebrity or promotional images or these images have been freely available within the public domain for a number of years. No original artistic works have been shown without the permission of the author, or attempts to contact the author of the work. All cover images on book covers were all purchased and are are credited with the artists name or nickname. Images in this book are used for the purpose of identification and critical commentary. All image sources are credited, where known. 

 

OBJECTIONS:

'First Name Books' are written about a name. Which means, all of those people, places and objects with that name. All books are published by us in very small print runs (10-50 books). If you have any issue with the material contained in any of the 'First Name Books', please contact us so that we can organise for the removal of this content, image or photograph, or replacement with an image or content of your choice (and supplied by you) in the next print run. 

Due to small print runs and low volume of international sales it will not be possible to recall any products or books previously sold with any image or content that a person may have any issue with (as stated in the previous paragraph). The following issue of the book or books, will be printed without the image or content that the person/s objected to.
